The adventure

Well my friend Rachael and I had planned on taking Festival and her PIT, George, downtown Seattle together. Problem: George was recalled very last-minute this month. So yesterday we decided that we should take Festival anyway. It would be fun, and good experience for Festival. And of course, since any story is boring when you just read about it, we took lots of pictures along the way…

Since we could drive down any day, and the bus is a “different” experience, we decided to go for the bus. Ten minutes (and frozen hands) later we boarded the very empty bus.

Waiting for the bus…

Well taking the bus anywhere is an adventure in itself. But taking the bus downtown with a dog in a green vest, is especially unique. I love the stares you get from people. Or this one guy was very polite, but I could tell he was watching me, looking at my eyes, to see if I was blind. He asked Rachael, “is he working?” And Rachael said yes, so I’m sure he was positive I was blind. THEN I grabbed the camera out of my purse to get an “on the bus” picture. I handed it to Rachael and she was going to try to get the picture but the guy, probably feeling sorry for the blind girl, said “oh I’ll take the picture for you!’ So thank you very much, very nice bus guy. You took a very cute picture 😉

Of course about half way, the bus started to fill up with Microsoft employees heading home from work. We have a lot of East Indian and Asian families in our area, and they both tend to be afraid of dogs. So it always makes for a fun ride when a person literally jumps when they see the dog tucked under the seat.

Once we got off the bus, we walked a few blocks. I just love the city. Not a huge fan of Washington state in general. I don’t like the rain, or the trees, or the constant state of sogginess. But one thing I love is our city. Chicago was nice, LA was cool, but Seattle is the best.

Festival’s raisers had told me he’s only been downtown once before, and that I might want to use the head collar on him if he gets nervous. After about 2 blocks of city sidewalk traffic, birds, and dogs, the head collar went on, and he was much more confident when we headed to Pike Place Market.

Pike Place is basically a big street market. A lot of people sell organic fruits and vegetables along with fish and other random Seattle kinds of things. It’s a lot of fun, and has some of the BEST bakeries around.

When we were heading back to the bus stop, we saw a blind lady and her golden retriever guide dog. I believe the dog was from TSE. (there was also a lady with a cane across the street from us) Festival and the guide ended up waiting at the same corner together. We told Festival to take lessons from the guide. ;D But it was kinda cool to have them together. Even though the lady had no idea we were there. Both dogs ignored eachother.

Festival slept most of the bus ride home. But he was very happy to get into Rachael’s car and just relax.

When we got home, he crashed on his bed. So that was our adventure for the day. We were going to be out all day today, too, since I go back to school tomorrow, but my dad decided to take the car that I drive into work today. Bummer. Maybe he only gets one big adventure all week.

He’s Here!

Well we have our lovely house guest. And I do mean lovely–he’s absolutely adorable. It’s……

I got to work with him at the meeting, and in our 30 minutes at home, he’s a great guy. I like him already. One thing that’s awesome about him is that he’s great with my little brother, who is 8. That’s really unique.

Oh a quick piece of club news, Tianna has been cc’d, but she’s sticking around as a pet. I’m sure she’s loving that 😀

Did I hear at some point that one of you knows a sibling of Festival’s? So here are some pictures of the cutie…(WordPress is being weird, so the captions might all be messed up, and there are 4 pictures missing…)

Wow it’s been a while

Well, since I haven’t posted in a while, here’s my lack of guide dog news…

Lana’s (the cute golden who was career changed and adopted by her raisers) family went out of town, so I got to go to their house for 2 days and play with her and their other pet dog. Man I LOVE cc’d dogs!! I mean, I hate it when it happens, but it was so great because Lana was just so happy and didn’t have to ‘behave’ like a guide dog PIT would. So playing with her was great.

My only other guide dog news would be that on Sunday I have my next house guest. He’s been here before, but just for brief periods of time. (like one or two days) I’m really excited to have him!!!!! And yes, I’m not saying his name on purpose (although I might have mentioned who it was in a previous post). I’m picking him up at the meeting on Sunday and I’ll have him through the next Sunday. Yippeee!! His raisers are experienced, and very good, so it’ll be great. Yessssssss….. Anyway, that’s my bit of excitement. It’s been a while since I’ve had a puppy.

And one final thing I wanted to say, my heart goes out to Sammy…I have no idea how hard it is to lose a puppy that you love so much. It doesn’t seem right, or fair. If there’s ANYTHING I can do, let me know..

Vortex made it into Community Connections!

My little favorite made it into the GDB Community Connections newsletter! I sent in the picture of him at school, and Sarah loved it, so now he’s famous. 🙂

You can see it here:

In other news, I’m puppy-less, but still thinking Tianna should be here. I got home from the mall today and almost went to my room to get her out of the crate. 😦 But it’s kind of nice at the same time. No 7am breakfast anymore!!

I don’t have any immediate puppy-sitting on the horizon, because apparently I didn’t scoop her little business fast enough for my parents, so I don’t get a puppy this month. (it was supposed to be for the month of Feb, but since Tianna left early I think I can do a Feb pup). I’m pretty sure I’m getting Festival in March. But I apparently need to go to meetings more often. It’s been really hard since my parents go to evening church which is exactly when our meetings are. But I’m working something out with my leaders. They want me to come more often, and I want to come more, too!! I always feel a little left out when I do go to meetings because we have a ton of new people who I don’t know. And they’re always handling puppies to get more experience. Since I don’t NEED to handle puppies, I let them do it all. The other weird thing is that all these new families (there are 3 or 4!) only know me as a puppy-sitter. They have no idea about the 3 pups I’ve raised. *sigh* I feel so ordinary. lol.

Adios Chiquita

Well it looks like Tianna will be leaving today. Sadly. We were originally going to take her home Sunday, but when I thought about it, her raisers are home, and I really wanted to sleep in on Saturday. So I suggested Friday, but her raiser is meeting with a new family on Friday, so she’s leaving today. 😦

As much as she’s been a lot of hard work and required quite a few hours of training, I love her and will miss her a lot. She’s learned a lot and it’s always great to see a dog go from a puppy who does everything wrong to a little older dog who knows what to do, but still does almost everything wrong. 😉

Yesterday we trekked up to McDonalds for lunch and of course “little T” came with us. She has such a hard time with people that I didn’t expect her to do very well. But we walked in and after a few corrections, she did fantastically well. I was very happily surprised! So after that outing I’m sad to see her go. There’s so much potential…. *sigh*

Here are some pictures of Chiquita in our Santa Hat…

And some pictures of just the cute little girlie.

Right now, she’s just sitting by my feet. She always loves to be with you wherever you are. If she’s in your lap, she’s happy. I’m gonna miss this girl!!! BUT once school starts again……Vortex will probably start his school visits again. Except he can’t come Tuesdays and Thursdays because I’ll be playing volleyball…

Winter Wonderland

I suppose I should update. Life’s been VERY slow here. We’ve been snowed in for almost a week, and I hate it. So does Tianna. We stil have about a foot of snow, but my dad put chains on our car, and we’re going to venture up to the grocery store so that I can get the rest of my Christmas presents and Tianna can have an outing, her first in over a week. We discovered that if she eats too much snow, she gets really runny stools. SO, no snow for little Tianna!!!

She’s a sweet girl. Many a night she will curl up in my lap and we’ll watch a movie. She’s still working on not mouthing, and whining’s been interesting (when she’s on the tie-down), but over all she’s great. Spends a lot of time loose in my room or on tie-downs in other parts of the house.

I really do need to get some pictures with her, especially ones in the snow. But she’s so wiggly it’s hard. And I hate snow. So put them together, and it’s been a challenge to be motivated enough to get out the camera and the dog at the same time. But here are some from inside:

I take it back. I do have ONE good picture of her in the snow….

Mellow Fellow

Fellow is very calm and laid-back. BUT, I’m looking forward to taking Vortex again. I love that little puppy. Fellow is so so so calm that he almost has no personality. I like Vortex’s spunky personality. 😀
